Earth day event: Barcelona boat tour, plastic fishing April 22, 10:00
“End Plastic Pollution” was last year’s Earth day goal. This year’s theme is “Protect our Species”. Reason for BarcelonaSail to participate again in this Earth day initiative, because when we fish plastic out of the sea we help protecting our species.
We use the Barcelona boat tour booking system to get you on our sail boats. Please use that so that we know how many people we will be.
BarcelonaSail organizes 4 times a year plastic fishing events. These events are free, however for this Earth day event we ask 20 euro per person. We go sailing, fish plastic, and play a plastic escape game to help you using less plastic in your future life.
Bring some cloves and be prepared to get a bit wet. Make photos, share them on your social media to create awareness for the plastic pollution in front of the Barcelona coast and make this Earth day plastic fishing event a great success! Plastic pollution in the Mediterranean
Plastics are poisoning and injuring marine life in the Mediterranean because sea animals eat the tiny plastic fibers. The plastic stays within the stomach of the fish and some pieces get absorbed in the fish body. Therefore, when we humans eat fish, we eat plastic as well. This can disrupt human growth especially during early puberty.
Every year we see more plastics during our boat tours and the exponential growth of plastics is threatening the Barcelona coast line. To create awareness and to educate we organize the sailing trips for plastic fishing.
Unfortunately the biggest amount of plastic pollution is unseen. Small plastic particles and pieces float in the sea, too small to see and fish with our nets, yet big enough to kill. Did you know that estimates state that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans?

The fight against climate change has never been more critical, and we need every single person who cares about the future of our planet to help us fight. Our goals include ending single-use plastics, promoting alternatives to fossil fuel-based materials, promoting 100 percent recycling of plastics, corporate and government accountability and changing human behavior concerning plastics.
BarcelonaSail uses stainless steel cups and carton food boxes on her boat tours and trips to reduce plastic. Our corporate responsibility statement describes Barcelonasail’s mission and environmenat goals. You can help us to become 100% plastic free within one year. Ideas are welcome.
