While we have been facing numerous new challenges in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic in recent weeks, one thing is certain: sustainability and the commitment to tackling climate change will remain central tasks both for Barcelonasail and for Barcelona.
BarcelonaSail is well positioned for this, as a sustainable business operating in harmony with the sea and the environment.
Our sustainability strategy focuses on climate protection. Our goal is clear: by 2023, we intend to be CO2 neutral. That means we will generate our energy to operate with the sun. Reuse material, do away with single-use plastic and reduce our specific net CO2 emissions per mile sailed.
And we are making good progress – in 2019, we had already achieved a reduction of around 75%. We are pleased with this achievement.
Sustainability for Barcelonasail means more than reducing our CO2 emissions. Through our free plastic fishing events, we are a true ambassador of the sea informing and creating awareness about plastic pollution at sea.
We help local restaurants with the purchase of eco-friendly, bio-degradable plastics. We share our latest insights on marine plastics, not existing yet, and microplastic.
We share our knowledge of solar-powered sailing, electrical boating, and our own outboard electric engine design, share the installation cost of electric engines and inform how solar-powered living off the grid is possible in Barcelona.

Team building games creating awareness
BarcelonaSail created team building games, we held presentations about plastic, all to generate awareness create ambasadors helping us keeping the sea clean.
Offcourse we describe the most common fish and largest mammals that room the mediterrean seas in front of the Barcelona coast.
